Spitting image . . . to bear a strong likeness to someone.
Where does the phrase come from? Is it really wet, slimy and potentially carry
spittle-borne pathogens? Yes, actually
it kind of is.
‘Spitting image’ comes from the expression ‘spit and image’ . . . ‘spit-n-image’. As in you look so much like someone they may
have just spit you out. Yeah, just like
that.
So, where does the expression actually originate? With God . . . yes, He who created the
heavens and earth and man. The Biblical
God created Adam in His own image using spit and mud . . . using something of
Himself to create man.
Similarly, along this same vein, when Haitian Voodoo and Philippine
Kulam diabolists create effigies to influence or curse another they need
something of that person in order to make the magic work. They require a likeness of the person . . .
the manikin . . . and something from the person such as fingernail clippings, hair,
or spit. They create a spitting image.
Pretty slick, eh?
LIBBY'S® Famous Pumpkin Pie
I’m all about making
stuff from scratch . . . and I’ve made pumpkin pie from scratch . . . but this
pie is about as close as you can get to the real thing.
3/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
1 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Ground Ginger
1/4 Teaspoon Ground Cloves
2 Large Eggs
1 Can (15 Oz.) Libby's® 100% Pure Pumpkin
1 Can (12 Fl. Oz.) Evaporated Milk
1 Unbaked 9-Inch (4-Cup Volume) Deep-Dish Pie Shell
Whipped Cream (Optional)
Mix sugar, cinnamon, salt, ginger and cloves in small bowl.
Beat eggs in large bowl. Stir in pumpkin and sugar-spice mixture. Gradually
stir in evaporated milk.
Pour into pie shell.
Bake in preheated 425° F oven for 15 minutes. Reduce
temperature to 350° F; bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted near
center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 2 hours. Serve immediately or
refrigerate. Top with whipped cream before serving.
Sorry if i spit on ya'll... I kinda have a problem with doing that.
