Firewater Friday . . . Sake is the bomb!

I absolutely love Sake . . . especially hot Sake.  It has an amazing fragrance and a taste like nothing else.

Most people think that Sake is a wine . . . it’s not.  It is more accurate to call Sake a rice beer.  It is brewed, like beer, but without the hops.  Japanese artisans have been brewing Sake since 300 B.C.  In those days, making Sake a village event where people would chew rice and nuts and spit the mixture into a tub.  Clean water was added to the mix and it was allowed to ferment . . . this technique and the resulting liquid, called 'Kuchikami no Sake' or 'Chewing the Mouth Sake' was an important part in Shinto ceremonies.

Sake is wonderful by itself but combined with beer it’s the bomb . . . the Sake Bomb, that is.

The sake bomb or sake bomber is a beer cocktail made by pouring sake into a shot glass and dropping it into a glass of beer.

What kind of sake you use for a sake bomb really is not that important, it just needs to be hot.

Any kind of beer will work, as well, but a lighter beer works better because it does not interfere with the taste of the sake.

You will need one regular jigger shot of sake for 12 ounces of beer..

Hold the shot glass in your hand and drop it into the glass of beer.   I use a super big mug for this because the drink will fizz way up.

Bomb it.
